If one is serious about sculpting his body or building muscles, he can very likely supplement his diet with soy or whey protein powders commercially available in the market. Despite the fact that whey powder-produced protein shakes do not taste good, one would like to stick to them to achieve their goal of building a better body.
Body builders very often consume protein in a powdered form. This supplement for body building contains the vital building blocks for muscles. Mixed with water or milk, the powder is often flavored. To obtain better results, protein powder is generally consumed in place of a meal or immediately before and after exercising.

Sufficient intake allows for the effective growth and restoration of muscle tissue. Whey protein serves a better purpose for the body builders as it contains the highest content of amino acid cysteine, branched-chain amino acids and essential amino acids to help in the biosynthesis of glutathione. Whey protein is also useful for body builders as it assists in muscle recovery. Other supplements, which can be consumed by the body builders, include casein protein also known as milk protein, egg-white protein and soy protein.
However, many healthy experts have criticized the consumption of protein shakes as a supplement for body building. They believe that the protein requirement of most users is already fulfilled in the normal diet. Apparently, meeting the daily requirements of proteins is the number one goal but excessive intake of protein everyday can cause kidney problems, weight gain or diarrhea. For body building, amino acids are required by the body only to some extent; about 1-1.5 pounds should be enough. Since the body can only metabolize five to nine grams of protein per hour, 40% of intake of protein would be just fine, although less would be even better.
Thus protein is a good supplement for building muscles but excessive intake of protein can result in adverse consequences.
