All Advantages And Disadvantages Of Whey Protein Supplements

Whey protein is referred to as the gold standard of protein. It contains all the essential amino acids useful to build proteins in the body. Protein has a Branched-chain amino acid constituency with the molecules like leucine, valine and isoleucine. Protein supplement is generally used by bodybuilders as it leads to high muscle growth and recovery. They are of two types, isolate and concentrate. It is taken with milk, juice or water before or after the workout.

Protein Drink

There are many advantages of this protein supplement. Whey protein leads to the IGF-1 production which in turn stimulates growth. When you are taking the whey isolate protein, you would be getting almost 10% of intact immunoglobulin proteins which have two sets of the polypeptide chains. In more simple words, with this supplement, your immunity system gets the maximum boost which helps in strong muscle growth. There is no other protein supplement which contains as much BCAA (Branch-chained amino acids) as the whey protein. Amino acids are both important in muscle growth and also repairing of muscle tissues. Body building results in both building and damaging of muscles. And a proper dose of this supplements daily covers up all the damages.

Protein Drink

Another advantage of Whey protein is that it also helps in the detoxification of body by enhancing the production of endogenous glutathione in the body. It facilitates in making your immunity system quite stronger. Bodybuilding is very painful, especially for the first couple of weeks. Here comes another merit of whey protein. The whey isolates contain the four necessary amino acids that can work as pain killers. Thus they serve a dual purpose of muscle building and also of relieving you of the pain.

But there are certain disadvantages too. In the first up, the best whey protein supplements available in the market are quite costly. And those which are affordable are mostly sugary. Thus be careful and consult your health advisor before buying this supplement.

Protein Drink

* Supplements stimulate the process of muscle building and increases endurance levels with ease. It is always advisable to drink 2-3 glasses of protein shakes daily. High protein and low fat diets are always advisable for muscle development. Foods such as eggs, oatmeal, soy-based products are the natural sources of protein. In order to increase muscle mass, one should include lots of high fibrous foods such as fruits and vegetables which are extremely important. You should at least drink 10-12 glasses of water daily for shedding those extra fats from your body.

* There are other supplements such as casein and creatine, which can increase the flow of blood in our body which consequently leads to muscle pumping. But due to lack of health benefits unlike Nitric Oxide, creatine supplement failed to perform.

* Nitric oxide not only increases blood flow but also benefits our overall health. The muscle pumping gets higher due to its intake. It supplies adequate blood and water to our working muscles, which eventually prevents many deadly diseases such as diabetes, heart attacks, cancer, osteoporosis and Alzheimer's disease. It also enables our body to produce collagen, which consequently slows down our aging process. It also stimulates fat burning in our body. The role of Nitric Oxide is indispensable in bodybuilding.

Should Bodybuilders Use a Soy Protein Shake?

Protein foods and supplements are one of the most important subjects for bodybuilders of every level. It doesn't matter if you're a professional bodybuilder or someone who just picked up weights for the first time, protein is essential for building muscle mass. In the quest to add more muscle mass lots of different protein drinks are purchased and consumed every day. There are new studies being performed on the effectiveness of the wide variety of protein types. People want to know which protein source is the best for adding lean muscle mass, so the debate about which is the best protein source is one that continues to rage on. One supplement that is surrounded by much controversy in the bodybuilding world is the soy protein shake. Many hardcore bodybuilders avoid soy like the plague, while others are beginning to integrate soy into their diets in increasing numbers.

Protein Drink

The Soy Protein Shake - The Opposition

Protein Drink

There are some people that react emotionally to the idea of drinking a soy shake to increase muscle mass. There have been some rumors that indicate that soy actually diminishes muscle mass. Like any other rumor, once this particular one started, it spread like wildfire. No one wants to take a chance on losing valuable muscle mass. If there's even a slight chance that soy shakes could cause muscle loss, people don't want anything to do with these products. Are these rumors about soy protein shakes true, though?

The truth is that, like many rumors, the notion that soy diminishes muscle mass is patently false. Soy may not rank up there with the popular bodybuilding supplements, like whey and casein, when it comes to increasing muscle mass, but studies show that it does have some very positive benefits that everyone, bodybuilders and athletes included, should be very interested in. If you've subscribed to the school of thought that says soy shakes should be avoided, it's high time to rethink that position in the light of hard scientific facts.

Soy Protein Shakes - The Benefits of Soy

It's time for the bodybuilding community to give soy a little leniency. Soy is not going to replace whey protein or casein as the most important supplement for building muscle mass, but it has a lot of benefits that people need to consider. Here are some of the benefits of drinking a soy protein shake:

- Soy protein can reduce the risk of heart disease. This fact alone should get people more interested in adding soy to their diets. Heart disease is one of the most deadly diseases in the world. Millions of lives are impacted every year by heart disease. If you're a bodybuilder, you certainly want to do all that you can to stay healthy and strong for as long as you can. Soy protein can help to reduce the chances of heart disease, which can help everyone to live longer, healthier lives.

- Soy protein shakes contain a complete protein profile. Soy has one of the highest biological values of any protein. While it may not rank as high as whey protein, soy is tops in the nutritional scores when it comes to the amino acids it provides. One very interesting benefit to the biological make-up of soy is the fact that it helps to improve the nutritional value of other foods that you eat. The strong amino acid profile in soy shakes makes the other nutrients that you eat more beneficial to your health.

Don't Fear Soy Protein Shakes

There's actually a lot about soy shakes to be enthusiastic about. Soy protein is a plant based protein source. Food allergies and personal preferences make some sources of protein untouchable for many people. Lots of people hear about how they need to eat chicken breasts, fish and other animal protein foods, but what are vegetarians to do if they want to gain lean muscle mass? Soy protein is an alternative for people who are avoiding animal and milk protein products. Soy protein is also very digestible. There are some people that simply cannot digest certain foods well. If you can't fully digest a protein shake, you're not going to get many benefits from that supplement. A soy protein shake is easier to digest and can be a great source of protein for people with digestive issues.

Soy protein shakes can also be beneficial since soy is known to have fantastic antioxidant capabilities. Your body fights a lot of internal battles every day. From fighting off viruses to expelling internal chemicals, the immune system is always working. Some of the oxidants that your body fights off are actually created in response to heavy workouts. To help your body in the battle to rid itself of these toxins, soy protein shakes can be a potent ally. The healthier you are the easier it will be to gain muscle and lose fat.

Soy protein shakes can be a great boost to your immune system

As beneficial as soy shakes can be, they should never be used as a replacement for other protein sources. Bodybuilders should still rely on top quality protein drinks, like Profect as their primary supplements. However, soy shakes make a great companion to other, higher quality protein drinks and foods. Don't quit using protein supplements and drinks, like Profect to make room for soy protein drinks. Instead, a good idea would be to add a few soy shakes to your regular diet to take advantage of some of the health benefits that soy protein offers. Building muscle requires a complete nutritional plan. The scientific facts don't lie - soy protein shakes can be a huge benefit for bodybuilders and non-bodybuilders alike, so give them a try for your health's sake.

Protein Needs and the Problem With All Liquid Diets

There are all kinds of diets, from the all cabbage diet to the all soup diet. In the 80's, there was a high protein, all liquid diet that was very popular, however, there were several problems noted with this plan. A better liquid protein supplement has been found, however, there still remain a number of problems with an all liquid diet of any kind, no matter how nutritious or delicious that the liquid might be. With over 34 million people listed as being obese, it is no wonder that so many different diet plans have been devised. (Source: med.Stanford.edu)

Protein Drink

At any one point in the year, there are an estimated 20 million people on a diet of some kind, whether it is one that has been studied and recommended by a doctor or something of their own devices. The diet industry makes over a billion dollars every year, whether the dieters get any kind of success or not. (Source: thriveonline.com) There are problems associated with even the best of diets. Diets do not fail because of a lack of willpower - they fail because they do not look at the bigger picture. Liquid diets, high protein diets and other diet plans have problems that include:

Protein Drink

- Addressing the actual needs of protein, fat and carbohydrates in the body
- Lack of support
- Medical risks of low calorie diets
- Medical risks of extremely high protein diets
- Why the body will always work to get what it needs

How Much of the Macronutrients Do You Really Need?

The body needs the three macronutrients, protein, carbohydrates and fat, to function properly. The body uses fat and carbs to burn for energy while protein is used in a number of other processes in the body. Protein is vital for every cell in the body and, unlike the other two, is not stored at all. New sources of protein, especially low fat, complete protein sources, must be eaten every day. Carbs, especially complex carbohydrates, should make up the bulk of the diet with about 50% of the calories. In a weight-maintenance diet (one that is meant to keep the body at its current weight), the ratio of proteins and fats should be 30% to 20%. However, in a diet that is meant to reduce weight, the amount of protein may go up to as high as 35% (the upper limit threshold) and the fat percent will go down to 15% of total calories per day. The American Heart Association's guidelines for weight management and heart health states that the total protein in the diet should never go higher than 35% because of a number of health risks.

Everybody needs a different level of protein, however. It is a common fallacy that the bodybuilder becomes enormous from eating extreme amounts of protein. Pound for pound, a baby, aged zero to six months, needs and should get twice the amount of protein than the typical body builder. (Baby needs 2.2 grams of protein per kilogram of body weight, while the body builder needs only 1.2 grams) (Source: the US Guidelines on Protein and Diet) To determine your own protein needs, you can follow a simple formula or discuss your needs with a doctor or a nutritionist. If you are being treated for any type of medical condition or illness, you should be discussing your dietary needs with a medical care professional anyway. The formula for protein needs is:

Divide your weight in pounds by 2.2 to get your weight in kilograms. Multiply that number by.8 to get your daily protein needs in grams.

This formula is not perfect, however, and there are some factors that you should keep in mind. For instance, if you are a sedentary person, your daily protein needs will be about half (.4 grams per kg of body weight). If you are a frequent exerciser, your needs will be between.5 and.8 grams. If you are an intense exerciser or an athlete, your needs may go as high as 1 gram. Keep in mind however, that the body builder only needs between 1.2 and 1.5 grams of protein per kg of body weight. Actual protein needs will vary depending on age, gender and health status as well. The upper limit of safe protein levels is 35% of total daily calories.

The Lack of Support in Liquid Diets

Support and proper education is important in any diet plan. It is even more important in a liquid diet plan because it can be so difficult to manage. The body is meant to eat solid foods in most cases. The body wants to eat solid foods. Even the most complex liquid does not have the mouth feel that can help to trigger the satiety hormone, leptin, which cues our body that we have had enough. Most liquid diets do not have enough of the macronutrients to be complete nor do they provide enough daily calories. The bottom line for liquid diets is simple: they are great for a short term, weight loss kick off plan, meant to jump start the weight loss and get the body ready to burn up the fat. It is not a good idea or viable for most people for a long-term, lifelong solution.

The Medical Risks of Very Low Calorie Diets

Most liquid diets reportedly have between 600-800 calories on average. For most adults, the low limit threshold for health and energy is 1100 calories. (For smaller adults, this number might be slightly lower.) However, before you kick off any kind of extreme calorie reduction, you should know what your daily calorie needs are, how much energy you use through exercise each day and what can happen if you drop down below what your own body is comfortable with.

Daily calorie needs are different for everybody because of body composition and weight. A rough formula to determine this is to start with resting metabolic rate:

Multiply your desired weight in pounds by 8 and then add 200.

To find out how much energy you use through exercise:

- Multiply the number of minutes spent doing light exercise (walking, light yoga, etc) by 4.

- Multiply the number of minutes you spend doing more intense exercise, like cardio work and strength training, by 8.

- Add these two numbers together to get your daily calorie needs number. (Source: Roizen and Oz, 2006)

This is the number of calories that you need to eat every day to keep your current weight. To lose weight, you need to lower this number by about 500 calories (to lose a pound a week, a safe and achievable goal), or you could increase your exercise minutes enough to equal an additional burn of 500 calories.

Once you go lower than what your body is comfortable with, however, it will start to panic. Instead of burning the fat stores for energy like it normally would, the body may start to slow down the metabolism altogether. If there is insufficient intake of calories from all three macronutrients, the body may start taking drastic measures, thinking that it is starving and breaking down its own muscle tissue to use for energy.

Medical Risks of Extremely High Protein Diets

Just as a diet that is high in fat will lead to weight gain, diets that are extremely high in protein (defined as over 35% of total daily calories) can cause major health problems as well. It is a myth that protein only turns to muscle in the body - excessive protein can and is stored by the body as fat. In addition, high protein diets can lead to electrolyte imbalances, which in turn can lead to heart rhythm problems. Those who have diabetes and kidney disease may see more health risks from high protein diets because they can lead to the formation of the most common type of kidney stone, the calcium oxalate stone. Too much protein can cause the body to eliminate too much calcium in the urine, increasing the risk of osteoporosis in those that are prone to the disease.

Why the Body Will Always Work to Get What it Needs

The body knows what it needs. It knows how much it should eat and what kind of protein is needed for each of its processes. Regardless of how hard you try to fight against your own nature, you will always find yourself eating more than you meant to so that your body can get the protein that is required. Your body will simply continue to eat until the right amount and type of protein is met. (Source: Science Alert: Massey University)

Protein Needs and the Problem With All Liquid Diets

The Versatility of Actinase Protein Complex

The ingredients list found on the back or side panel of every commercially available food product - with few exceptions - serves as the consumer’s best starting point for understanding the real contents of each product. It discloses the ingredients that make up the product, sorted in order from most abundant to least abundant. What it does not show is the actual quantity of each ingredient. As such, more people than ever before are reading the Nutrition Facts panel on product labels to truly understand what is in their food[i].

Protein Drink

However, where one problem has been solved, another has emerged. While it is beneficial for people to know that their food contains a specific amount of nutrients and/or vitamins, there are variations within those elements that are not captured by a typical food label. This is illustrated clearly when examining protein.

Protein Drink

Many consumers are well aware of the importance of protein in daily diet. Protein constitutes the very building blocks that sustain life, from digestion through to muscle maintenance[ii]. However, eating the Recommended Daily Intake (RDI) of 50 grams of protein may not be as healthy as it should be, due to the differences in protein sources and protein qualities.

The variation of protein used in products is almost as wide as the variation of products themselves. Manufacturers may use whey, soy, caseinate and other protein types to fortify their products with protein. And within each of these protein types are further refinements called ‘protein grades’ such as whey concentrate, whey isolate, whey hydrolysate, and so on. Though the specific type and grade of protein used in a product is not captured on the Nutrition Facts or Supplement Facts panel of a product, it is an important distinction.

The type and grade of protein determines how well the body will digest and assimilate it. Certain proteins such as whey isolate are readily digested after physical activities. Other proteins such as caseinates are ideal for sustained energy and anti-catabolism, and therefore best taken when there will be a long lapse before the next meal (catabolism is the state in which the body breaks down muscle tissue for energy).

One special grade of proteins - hydrolyzed proteins - is used in a very small percentage of products because of its high cost to manufacture. It is most often found in infant formula because it is very gentle on the stomach; it is easy to digest and assimilate. Hydrolyzed proteins are derived from complete proteins oftentimes through an enzymatic process of breaking down the protein into smaller constituents called peptides. The process divides the long protein molecules into shorter molecules called peptides. Generally, the smaller the peptide (measured in Daltons), the easier the protein is to digest and absorb.

Hydrolyzed proteins also owe their popularity to the fact that, as compared to standard proteins, they are less susceptible to denaturing (a process by which the proteins are broken into structures that the body cannot easily digest).

Since hydrolyzed protein is an excellent, natural formula of protein, it stands to reason that consumers would continually look for products using it. However, this is where the challenge occurs. The Nutrition Facts panel on product labels does not reveal the grade or even the type of protein used. To find this information, the consumer needs to turn back to the ingredient list. The FDA requires all food products to disclose the source of all proteins (eg. whey, soy, egg), but not the grade (eg. concentrate, isolate, hydrolysate).

Since all proteins are not the same, manufacturers employ various methods for incorporating them into products. Proteins such as caseinate and soy are alkaline-based and can only be used with ‘milky’ flavors such as chocolate and vanilla. Another drawback to casienates and soy is their high viscosity (thickness). This limits the amount of caseinate or soy that can be used in a beverage. Whey is an acid-based protein and is less viscous. Whey can be used with fruity flavors because of its compatibility with acidulants such as citric acid and malic acid. A challenge with all of these proteins is their heat instability – when they are heated, the proteins denature (break apart). Denatured proteins are difficult to digest and difficult to metabolize. Most proteins on the market fall into this category.

However, an innovative hydrolyzed protein blend called Actinase® could be changing all of this for the better. Because of its molecular structure, Actinase is very dense. Forty grams of Actinase can be dispersed in less than three fluid ounces of water, with a viscosity no thicker than tomato juice. Any other protein at this concentration would become a sold mass. In other words, Actinase allows manufacturers to add more protein to their product without adding the thickness (or, viscosity) normally associated with protein fortification. Actinase is also very heat stable, so it has many applications that transcend the obvious sports drink market.

Yet Actinase’s appeal goes beyond its heat-resistance and low viscosity. It is all natural, hypoallergenic, both acid and alkaline stable, and complete (i.e. Actinase contains all essential amino acids). Through a natural physiological mechanism called thermogenesis, Actinase also stimulates the body’s metabolism and caloric burn rate. This is very good news for individuals on a weigh-loss or weight-maintenance program, since an increased caloric burn rate reduces the intensity and frequency of fat-storing insulin surges. It is also good news for consumers who want to ingest a good source of protein, but not necessarily taste it, since Actinase has a neutral taste and aroma.

Only a few years ago, learning about protein was confined to simply reading a food label to ensure that the Recommended Daily Intake was being met. Today, however, the subject has become more complex, especially with respect to protein. Consumers now understand that it is not enough to simply understand how much protein is in their food. They should be aware of the source and quality of the protein, as well.

Protein Poisoning, Acid, Cause of Disease

With all the Hype about our need for protein, millions are being poisoned, by too much protein, and/or the wrong kind of protein. For the arthritis sufferer, this creates an acid condition that;

Protein Drink

· Robs calcium from bones and teeth, producing osteoporosis, tooth decay, and extreme sensitivity to toxins in the food and environment.

Protein Drink

· Causes degeneration of joints irritating joint tissues, causing inflammation, pain in the joints, and other connective tissue.

How much protein do we really need?

The best research (as outlined in the China Study *) has demonstrated that we were designed for a diet of 5% protein. The average American eats a diet of 25% protein.

The most simple way to back this up I know is to look at the stage of life when we should need the most protein. It would stand to reason that a growing human baby, during the first year of its life, would need the most protein, on a percentage of total calories basis. Does that sound logical to you?

It is a no brainer, to say that a human baby is designed to eat its mother's milk. So what is the protein level in mother's milk? It is 5%. This has been demonstrated countless times.

If the child is fed cows milk, which is much higher in protein, it is very likely to experience many disease symptoms. Cows milk is designed for a growing calf. A Calf grows to full maturity in less than two years. We humans take 20 years to grow to maturity. To be blunt, Cows milk is designed for a fast growing calf.

When we feed our children too much protein, it is like trying to force them to maturity too soon, before they are ready for it. They exhibit all sorts of symptoms. One of the most obvious is premature puberty. Many of the sources of excess protein are high in Growth Hormones that accelerate a child's body to a maturity level far beyond what they are emotionally ready for.

There are many other side effects; allergies, cancer, juvenile diabetes, early onset arthritis, ADHD, the list goes on and on.

What Kind of protein do we really need?

That is the subject of another debate. I touched on that above. When you look at our physiology it is easy to see that we were not designed to easily make use of whole protein. We were designed to get our protein in the form of amino acids.

The protein in fruits and most vegetables is in the form of amino acids. Because of this fact, it is much easier for us to make use of the protein in fruits and vegetables, since it is already in the form we need it to be in.

The protein in animal products must be broken down into amino acids before we can make use of it. Our digestive system is not equipped to do this in a timely manor, especially if we eat a large percentage of animal products at a given meal. It has been shown that if we eat leafy greens with a small amount of animal products our bodies cam make better use of them, though they are not ideal.

Another problem with animal products is that the protein has been deranged by heat. This makes it that much more difficult to digest and that much more toxic to our bodies.

So what are the results?

The obvious primary result is a high incidence of cancer and heart disease. Our bodies have to work hard to deal with this foreign protein.

It is like giving a builder defective building materials to build your house. It is likely to fall down or have some other mishap like a fire caused by defective wiring. If the bricks are sound but he mortar is not the wall could fall down if bumped or with the least vibration.

If we try to build our bodies with defective building materials, why should we be surprised when we have a defective body, or a body that is falling apart?

Diabetes is rampant in our society. In areas of China, * where they eat a diet based on whole plant foods, Diabetes is unheard of.

Our people are plagued with all sorts of allergies. Take away the animal protein and the allergies disappear. High protein levels in the blood make our bodies hyper sensitive to the toxins we are exposed to.

The Main result of a high protein diet is that our blood is too high in acid content. We were designed to have our blood on the alkaline side of neutral. We cannot tolerate an acid blood PH. To compensate our bodies rob our bones and teeth of calcium and other base minerals to neutralize the acid. This is a defensive measure. If this did not happen we would die much sooner than we do from acid poisoning.

The calcium in cow's milk has been cooked. The result is that it is inorganic. The only benefit we can get from inorganic calcium is to help neutralize acid. Inorganic calcium cannot be used to build strong bones effectively. The problem is that when combined with too much protein there is not enough calcium to neutralize the acid produced by the digestion of, foreign, deranged, whole protein.

Arthritis is caused by an acid condition in the body. As stated above this is usually caused by the consumption of animal products. Eating too much cooked food can also cause it. Cooking destroys most of the food value of otherwise healthy foods.

Protein poisoning causes Cancer. Foreign proteins in the blood are attacked by our body defense system. Cancer is the natural result of the defense and healing process. High protein levels cause cells to break away from bodily control. If the defense system is unable to destroy these cells that are out of body control, it tries to isolate them. This is what causes tumors to develop.

The Body creates tumors as a way to isolate toxins and cells that leave the control of the body. If we don't stop causing this situation, It is likely to continue. Cutting out the tumor only addresses the results, or symptoms. It does nothing to remove the cause. The same is true of radiation and chemotherapy. They do nothing about the underlying cause.

To Summarize

We need our protein from whole plant sources, in the form of amino acids, in the form and percentage we were designed for. That is living whole fruits and vegetables, or the fresh juice of the living fruits and vegetables, with their living enzymes intact. Any other source is not what we were designed for.

Best Lean Protein Source - Low Calories, No Fat, Major Protein

Whether you are doing a low carbohydrate diet to lose weight or are trying to build major muscle - a good high performing, lean protein source is beneficial. If you are doing an Atkin's style diet or the new French method, the Dukan Diet - additional protein is exactly what you need.

Protein Drink

What are some good sources of lean protein? Chicken, and fish are generally your lean protein choices. Both of these are great options but do require some preparation time so aren't always the best choices when you are on the go and have a very busy schedule. Besides, sometimes chicken and fish get boring, even if you happen to have time to be creative with various preparations. Still, adequate protein is essential in your quest to lose weight and build lean muscle. You can also get protein from lean cold cuts but you need to pay attention to additional preservatives and ingredients in the cold cuts you buy.

Protein Drink

You have probably considered or tried various protein powders. Whey powder and soy protein powder are some popular protein powder choices. These are both good and easy to use sources of protein. Have you tried Hemp protein powder? This vegetarian natural protein source is about 50% protein and has tons of nutritional and health benefits. It also has an earthy, delicious flavor that is excellent in shakes, smoothies, salad dressings, sauces and more. You can find more detailed info about Hemp Protein Powder on my site.

However, if you are looking for the absolute best, purest form of protein - look no further than liquid egg whites. Egg whites are very low in calories, have no fat, no cholesterol and are the best source of lean protein for building muscle and burning fat. This makes them a great addition to your weight loss regiment. Because cooking the eggs kills some of the nutrients, uncooked egg whites are a fantastic option to get the maximum nutrients and protein from them.

As it isn't a good idea to down raw egg whites from the egg carton for safety reasons (think salmonella)- you should consider getting pasteurized all natural 100% pure liquid egg whites. These egg whites are kosher, guaranteed safe, 100% bio-available for optimum absorption and more. Liquid egg whites have been a body builders' secret for years and are the best way to build lean muscle literally in your sleep.

By drinking a mix of these liquid egg whites and any mixer of your choice including sugar-free sweeteners or chocolate before bed, you get your body in a muscle building, fat burning mode. This helps you to lose weight faster. Instead of running out of protein as your body usually does in the middle of the night, your body has the fuel to continue burning fat and working for you while you sleep.

Pure liquid egg whites have no taste and are odorless so they can take on the flavor of anything you add to them and they have a super smooth texture that you can whip, drink straight or cook up as scrambled eggs with herbs, quiche or anything else you like.

You don't have to worry about your liquid egg whites going bad - they stay good in the refrigerator for 3-4 months and stay good in the freezer basically forever.

Get ready to start building lean muscle, burning fat, and losing weight by making pure liquid egg whites part of your daily routine.

Make a Breakfast Diet Shake Without Protein Powder to Lose Weight

It is a simple matter for you to get enough protein in your diet on a daily basis from regular foods. According to The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention women ages 19 to 70 should have 46 grams of protein per day while a man should consume 56 grams per day. With the average protein powder carrying about 20 grams of protein per scoop you are getting almost half of your nutritional needs in one sitting.

Protein Drink

A powdered breakfast goes quickly from your stomach and in to your blood system. If you tend to get too much protein in your diet your body just eliminates any of the excess. It is much better to spread out your intake of all your nutritional requirements over the course of the day. An adult male who needs just 56 grams of protein per day can get all he needs from the following:

Protein Drink

• 1 cup of milk has 8 grams of protein

• A 3-ounce piece of meat has about 21 grams of protein

• 1 cup of dry beans has about 16 grams of protein

• An 8-ounce container of yogurt has about 11 grams of protein.

Breakfast as well as all of our other meals should be balanced consisting of a protein, fibrous carb and a starchy carb. The protein is necessary to slow the break down of the starch and the fibrous carb will keep the metabolism burning steadily and for a longer period of time. This is where our breakfast shake recipe becomes a better alternative. This breakfast blend was taught to me by Dr. Cliff Sheats, PhD, CCN Board Certified Clinical Nutritionist and author of the "Lean Bodies for Life" in Dallas, TX.

For a quick breakfast shake blend 1 cups oats (raw) which both our fibrous and starchy carb requirement because it is a whole grain that has not been broken down. The second ingredient should be one of the following Proteins: 8oz.yogurt, 10 oz. skim milk. Next add water and ice cubes and blend for at least 30 seconds. For flavor you can add your choice of: 1/2 cup berries or sugar free Crystal-Light, Tang, Kool-Aid, Nestles Quick or any other fruit or sugar free syrup.

As you can see for yourself there are many breakfast shake combinations that will keep you from getting bored with your breakfast. I believe that is half of the battle when trying to lose weight. Always remember that real food is all you really need to ever consume. Food is the medicine that you feed your body to lose weight and keep yourself healthy and strong.

Drinks Recipes - Smoothies

Do you have a blender and some fruit? Add a few other key ingredients and you have everything you need for a nutritious and tasty breakfast, lunch, or afternoon pick-me-up. Smoothies can contain just about anything you have on hand in the pantry and refrigerator and can be an excellent way to get the nutrients and protein you need, without adding a lot of extra unwanted calories to your diet. Summer fruits are packed with Vitamin C and antioxidants, plus they taste delicious when mixed with a bit of yogurt and ice cubes. However, no matter what time of the year, it's easy to whip up some smoothies with whatever is in season.

Protein Drink

Prune and Soy Milk Smoothie

Protein Drink

Benefits: High in fiber and high in antioxidants.

Blend together 5-7 pitted prunes, 1 banana, ice cubes, and enough soy milk for the desired consistency. Pour into a tall glass and enjoy.

Note: If you prefer organic milk or rice milk, these would be fine to use as well.

Other additions could be ground flax seed or a dash of honey.

Blueberry and Orange Juice Smoothie

Benefits: Blueberries are extremely high in antioxidants that are known to help fight cancer and heart disease.

In a blender, mix orange juice, plain yogurt, washed and stemmed blueberries, and a dash of honey to taste.

Berry Fruit Smoothie

Benefits: High in protein from using protein powder. Delicious flavor by combining berries and a banana.

For one person, blend together ½ of a pear (cored, of course), ¼ cup of frozen mixed berries or frozen blueberries, 1 ¼ cup of water, a dash of cinnamon, a dash of milk, 1 large tablespoon of protein powder (your choice), and some ground flax seed. Blend the ingredients until you are happy with the consistency, pour over ice and serve. For two people, simply double the recipe. The protein powder you choose can be any flavor (chocolate or vanilla), to make it a bit different each time. This is a tasty and satisfying drink for breakfast, especially if you need to get out the door quickly, but still need some energy for the day.

Strawberry and Kiwi Smoothie

Benefits: Kiwi is high in Vitamin C, potassium and other nutrients. Strawberries are high in antioxidants, high in Vitamin C, they have anti-inflammatory properties, and are said to help prevent cancer.

This smoothie recipe makes enough to serve two people.

In a blender, place several washed and hulled strawberries, a couple of diced kiwi fruits, a sliced banana, ice cubes and a dash of high-quality honey.

Smoothies are a quick and easy way to get the vitamins, nutrients, antioxidants and protein into our diet that might otherwise be replaced with foods high in sugar or fat. A smoothie is quicker to whip up even than eggs or pancakes. Smoothies are a great way to use up the fruit or yogurt in your refrigerator, while creating a healthy, nutritious meal or snack. Fruit smoothies are actually much better for you when they are made at home, rather than purchasing one on your way to work. By making them at home, you control the ingredients used, which means there aren't any hidden fats or calories. Skim milk and low-fat yogurt will decrease the calorie count significantly, so if you are watching your weight, it is better to make the smoothie at home.

Can Whey Protein Help Prevent Diabetes?

Type 2 diabetes is a growing problem in the United States. Some of the major factors influencing this disease include obesity, poor diet, and lack of physical activity. Simply put, the cause behind type 2 diabetes is an unhealthy lifestyle. Over the years the concern with diabetes has grown larger because it no longer affects only adults. Ever since the number of children and teenagers affected with type 2 diabetes increased, more and more people began to take notice. One of the easiest solutions to the problem is healthy nutrition. Recent studies have shown that the consumption of whey protein could help manage and possibly prevent the onset of type 2 diabetes.

Protein Drink

Whey protein is high quality and high biological value protein. It is a good choice for diabetics who need to carefully manage their food intake. Whey protein provides the body with the highest quality protein without the added fat and cholesterol. Majority of foods which are rich in protein essentially contain some amount of fat and cholesterol. These additional calories from fat are the culprits of obesity. By getting a lot of protein from whey, people lessen their calorie intake while at the same time gaining essential amino acids. Certain studies have also shown that whey protein helps control glucose levels and aids in weight management.

Protein Drink

As you can see, whey protein helps in eliminating certain major risk factors for diabetes; such as obesity, poor nutrition, fat intake, and unstable glucose levels. It really makes no sense to continue with our poor eating habits given that we know their life threatening outcome. If a healthy diet and exercise is all that it takes to prevent ourselves from getting type 2 diabetes what are we waiting for? Diabetes is a serious disease and one way to prevent it is through nutritionally healthy whey protein.
